A standalone coffee shop owned by the company that also operates the Twice Daily convenience market brand is slated for 12South.
White Bison Coffee will be located next to Portland Brew, a café that has long helped anchor the mixed-use district. The site is home to a nondescript building formerly home to E&S Motors (see here courtesy of Google Maps) and with an address of 2607 12th Ave. S.
According to a permit request that has been filed with Metro, Nashville-based Tri Star Energy (which developed the White Bison name and brand) is looking to have constructed a 3,900-square-foot retail building for the coffee shop. No gas tanks will be included. Goodlettsville-based Perry Engineering is participating in the project, with Cassetty Architecture of Hendersonville handling the design.
According to Metro property records, Tri Star seemingly does not own the property.
12South is also home to well-established café Frothy Monkey. Similarly, 10th Avenue South, running parallel to 12th Avenue two blocks to the east, offers BOX, a bakery and café.
The effort to get construction of the coffee shop building underway comes as Tri Star Energy is prepping to open a White Bison by year’s end in The Nations near the intersection of 51st and Centennial Boulevard.
Tri Star Energy officials could not be reached for comment. The company has wholesale, commercial and retail operations within the energy industry, including those for Shell. Founded in 2000, Tri Star has an ownership structure comprising locally based Kimbro Oil Co., an interest of the Jewell family, and Shell.
